Jazz Around the World – 4 April – Jamaica

Playbill from 2007 Ocho Rios Jazz Festival

Welcome to Jamaica. I am pleased to have you join us in my beloved second home. You’ll notice our cover photo for today is from the 2007 Ocho Rios Jazz Festival. Both of our artists have performed at this prestigious annual event at one time or another. Each has been making music for more than five decades. And both have been awarded Jamaica’s Order of Distinction.

Taking the stage today are pianist Monty Alexander and guitarist Ernest Ranglin. If we’re lucky, they may join forces and close out our day here in the jewel of the Caribbean.

First up is Ernest Ranglin:

Surfin’

Fly Me to the Moon

Double Talk

Inflight

Now let’s bring to the stage Monty Alexander:

Satin Doll

Work Song

With Jeff Hamilton and John Clayton – “Mojo”

With Harlem-Kingston Express – “No Woman No Cry”

We are in luck. Monty and Ernest will share the stage together to close out our concert:

Satta Massagana

Map of JamaicaThank you for joining us here in Jamaica. I hope you enjoyed the concert. We’ll meet at the Internet Airport for an overnight flight. Next stop on our Jazz Around the World tour: Panama.

April is Jazz Appreciation Month. Support the artists. Buy their music. Go out and see some live Jazz today.
