Welcome to Brazil. So many Jazz musicians to choose from here. Today our lineup will feature Antonio Carlos Jobim, Astrud Gilberto, Tania Maria, and Marcio Montarroyos.

First up is Antonio Carlos Jobim. What can you say about Jobim that hasn’t been said already? His compositions have been recorded by countless musicians the world over. Let’s listen to a couple of his classics:

Wave

Waters of March (Aguas de Março)

Coming to the stage now is Astrud Gilberto. Astrud came to prominence on the international music scene after recording a Jobim tune, Garota de Ipanema (The Girl from Ipanema). Her collaboration with saxophonist Stan Getz garnered her four Grammy awards when the album Getz/Gilberto was released.

Agua be Beber

One Note Samba (Samba de Uma Nota Só)

Next up is keyboardist/vocalist Tania Maria. Tania has a very distinctive style. She frequently vocalizes along with her improvisation on the piano. Her piano playing has such a percussive, syncopated rhythm that the listener can’t help but smile when they hear her. Please welcome if you will, Tania Maria:

Come With Me

With the Frankfurt Radio Big Band – “Tranquility”

With Gia Peikrishvili – Live in Tbilisi, Georgia – “Together”

Live – “Mas Que Nada”

To close out or concert today, we have trumpeter Marcio Montarroyos. I first heard his music in the early 1980s. His distinctive style of playing immediately grabbed my attention. I liked what I was hearing so much that I ran out to the music store to pick up a copy of his newly-released vinyl album Magic Moment.

Sabor Da Tarde

Magic Moment

Sky Dive

Live In Rio – “Bis”
