Welcome to South Africa. Today we are being treated to a performance by three different artists. My personal bucket list includes a trip here to stay for a month or so just soaking up the music scene…and hopefully joining in.

We have a long day ahead. So instead of me giving you background on all of the artists who will be performing for you today, let’s just let them do what they do best:

Welcome now, guitarist/singer Jonathan Butler:

Africa

7th Avenue South

Live – “Sarah, Sarah”

Next, please welcome bassist Sipho Gumede:

Gumba in Durbant

Down South

When Days Are Dark, Friends Are Few

Closing out our concert today is none other than trumpeter/flügelhornist/composer Hugh Ramopolo Masekela. Hugh just celebrated his 75th birthday last week on 4 April. Let’s welcome him and wish him a happy birthday:

Grazing in the Grass

Marketplace

Live – “Bring Him Back Home”

With an All-Star cast – Live at International Jazz Day 2013 – “Stimela (Coal Train)”

From Music Legends – (No title provided)

Map of South AfricaThank you for joining us here in South Africa. I hope you enjoyed the concert. We’ll meet at the Internet Airport for an overnight flight. Next stop on our Jazz Around the World tour: Ethiopia.

April is Jazz Appreciation Month. Support the artists. Buy their music. Go out and see some live Jazz today.
