Welcome to England. We are here today to pay a visit first to the group Shakatak. Next keyboardist/vibraphonist/percussionist Victor Feldman will play for us. The longevity and body of work of both Shakatak and Feldman is remarkable.

Shakatak came to my attention in the early 1980s, just as they were bursting onto the U.S. music scene, and has been recording and performing quite steadily ever since. Let’s bring them up now.

Live 1984 – “Nightbirds”

Feldman also came to my attention in the early 1980s. He is yet another musician we will visit on this tour who has played with a stellar list of international musicians. One of those musicians was the great Miles Davis. During his time with Davis, Feldman penned the standard “Seven Steps to Heaven”. Sadly, we lost Victor in 1987, but thanks to the Internet, his music can still reach new ears. Please welcome Victor Feldman:

Live 1965 performance – “Swinging on a Star”

Soviet Jazz Themes – “Victor”

Victor Plays Everything in Sight – “By Myself”

With the Generation Band – “Target”

Map of EnglandThank you for joining us here in England. I hope you enjoyed the concert. We’ll meet at the Internet Train Station for a trip through the Chunnel. Next stop on our Jazz Around the World tour? France.

April is Jazz Appreciation Month. Support the artists. Buy their music. Go out and see some live Jazz today.
