Hello and welcome to Jazz Around the World 2. Glad you are joining us on the second edition of this historic trip. Through the magic of the Internet (and YouTube), we will be visiting 30 different countries in 30 days – a different country each day. Our tour has us traveling around the globe, enjoying some great Jazz music in each country on our itinerary.

Some of the musicians we will be featuring may be familiar to you. Others may introduced to you for the first time. And since our vehicle for this tour is the Internet, we will be able to see archived footage of performances by those artists who have gone on to the ultimate gig. May they rest in peace.

If you’re joining us early, here’s a bonus concert: As you know, Jazz began in the city of New Orleans in the United States. We have as our featured musician from the Crescent City, trombonist/trumpeter Troy Andrews, better known to us as Trombone Shorty. Andrews began playing trombone at the age of four – which explains how he got his nickname. At that young age, he appeared on stage with Bo Diddley at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, an event for which Andrews now has the distinct honor of performing the closing set. He and his band Orleans Avenue have toured the world, and performed with countless artists from various genres of music. Back home, Andrews heads the Trombone Shorty Foundation.

Let’s get this party started. Ladies and gentlemen, Trombone Shorty:

Hurricane Season

At age 13 with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra – Live at Jazz A Vienne – “2nd Line”

Sunrise

Taping of Sound Options – “Buckjump”

As guest with Mindi Abair – “Amazing Game”

With Orleans Avenue – Live at Byron Bay Bluesfest – “Vieuw Carre”

New OrleansI hope you enjoyed the concert. Get some rest. Tomorrow we fly down south. The first stop on our Jazz Around the World 2 tour: Mexico.

April is Jazz Appreciation Month. Support the artists. Buy their music. Go out and see some live Jazz today.
